Mercedes-Benz O530 Citaro Batch 3

Hi,

I would clarify to you why there are 474 buses for Mercedes-Benz O530 Citaro Batch 2. This is because SBS Transit had undisclosed to use it's 'option' to purchase additional 24 buses under Batch 2. Hence, the actual Batch 2 units last at SBS6865H and SBS6549X respectively.

This is evidence with the large jump in Chassis No. of the respective buses between the two batches as the manufacturer would usually build vehicle/chassis according to the timing of when a operator purchase buses (in batches) from the manufacturer.

[FAQ] What is 'Option'?

An 'Option' refers to the agreement between the buyer and seller to purchase additional buses under the same batch of what the buyer already brought. Sometime, the buyer may actually exercise it's option and get additional buses (usually very few) to be brought earlier. In this case, SBS Transit did exercise it's 'Option' and purchase 24 buses under Batch 2 without announcing.

Just Like SMRT did when SMRT purchased additional 2 buses for MAN A22 Batch 2 making the total number 202 instead of official source 200.

Thanks & Regards

Hi,

Thank to clarify the following points, even if I agreed partially to what you had said.

As for SMRT's order, SMRT only order 200 Batch 2 (as per press release). The last bus, SMB3114X could be registered alone without SMB3115T and SMB3116R to make up 200 units, but it's exercise option for additional 2, bringing 202 Batch 2, and SMB3115T and SMB3116R was registered with SMB3114X like what you mention. Registration of buses could also been delay (if there are too much spare buses and/or lack of parking facilities) which may results in late registration as per normal. Thus, no buses been registered does not equal to end of production.

With that being said, your statement that one last round to complete registration did not tally as multiple last round could happen (Like what LTA is doing with SMRT MAN A22 BSEP) where they can register one shot (22 buses) but they choose 1-4 buses at a time, which may delay it's registration time, and may coincided with the later batch(es). This may also result in buses from two different batch being registered co-currently.

As for chassis number, there will definitely be a jump/random order in terms of bus registration. In a production line, not all will get delivered to the same operator in sequence order (but the difference between the two chassis number is not that huge). Next, shipping time. Not all chassis will be ship to a particular place and arrive in sequence order, so there will also be a jump. The rego is also the same case, not all rego will be place on consecutive chassis number. So with all those in consideration, if the chassis number is somewhat similar, like within the range of 100-500, we can assumed it as part of the same batch. The different in sequence number between SBS6549X (WEB62808323126631) and SBS6550R (WEB62808323128581), there is a difference of 1800. Compare with SBS6866E (WEB62808323128566) and SBS6865H (WEB62808323126603) again, like what you mention, SBS6865H belongs to Batch 2, SBS6866E belongs to Batch 3 (a difference of about 1500 in chassis number), why SBS6549X, having chassis number being closer to SBS6865H rather than SBS6866E being Batch 3 instead of 2? And if SBS6549X is in Batch 3, than the total is 470 buses not 450 buses according to press release. So there is definitely a "hidden" order behind it and no one knew about it until it registered.

Of course, that being said, we could wait till 2016/2017 until all buses being registered, but I will guess that, there will be more buses purchased instead of the summation of buses according to press release.

Thanks & Regards
