..where is this bridge of Co-prosperity in Southeast Asia? see Brunei!
The causeway (1038 m) was designed by Messrs Coode, Fizmaurice, Wilson and Mitchell of Westminster was adopted and the contract awarded to Topham, Jones & Railton Ltd of London. It started in 1909 as a railway link by Johor State Railway to connect Johor Bahru to Singapore, then the administrative headquarters of British interests in South-East Asia. Construction of the road section started in 1919 and was completed in 1923.
Between two neighbors and great peace partners < in the United Nations > is a unique bridge built <since the earliest times of the old British administration> when the people used it as a way to cross from the Island to the Peninsula of Malaya. It is a land bridge without allowing the water to flow freely between the waters of the Strait of Johore.
Today it carried the roadway, the water pipes and the railway for trains to cross from West Malaysia to Singapore.
It could have been a prosperity bridge of understanding and communications of utmost importance but the two nations seemed to major on the sour points of disagreement since when the political split occurred then in the 60s, when Singapore became independent..[[2]]
The old bridge had been known as the Causeway and it have been the bridge of dissent and disagreements between two good friends and great neighbors. I suggest calling the Bridge of Co-Prosperity! We should allow the natural water to flow freely!
Singaporeans should join in to build the new bridge and not to be cynical about it...irregardless of some difficult disagreements it always has been two examplary Countries living together as peaceful neigbours!
- There are over 69 millions <according to New S.Times> trips which crosses the causeway every year !
