‘‘‘Taboo’’’ is a word coined in the context of cultural belief of non-christianized peoples whose practices of certain rites, or way of lifestyles regarding their tribal or ethical matters too sacred to be even mentioned or discussed.

  • For example: "fornication" "adultery" "incest" "cheating" "womanizing" "practice of black magic" "secret activities" etc.. are considered as "taboo" or too sacred for public discussion. {**Public may not accept some sacred of the most taboo-ed here, so we cannot mention it here..)
  • Certain do's and don'ts are practiced by many different peoples that outsiders intruding upon, can be very offensive or considered to be insults with the people, or even a particular individual even a host who may welcome an outsider to be a guest in their village or home. It is wise to be a learner than be a teacher under such circumstances
  • Explicit knowledge can be easily shared in a group , community or in the general public, however tacit insider information may be kept for obvious reasons as such informations are "taboo-ed" and outside the scope of the public or others who don't need to know for sure.

[edit] A note to the wise

Generally speaking the public considered it's okay to talk about politics, however some garmen supporters of their party (e.g. PAPsupporters } definitely will be insulted when matters about the garmen are brought up in the negative light no matter how the others (opposition) non supporters feel. Generally it is wise not to talk "politics" among Singaporeans especially for visitors and outsiders who doesn't understand local politics well enough to get some respects, but if there be praises, Singaporeans certainly welcome those genuine remarks. The garmen take up such matters with great seriousness however, not the general public when in the many years of subservience to the authority; had hardly wanted to incur the wrath of the garmen or their supporters, consequently, it's been a "taboo" subject for many older supporters of the garmen. However, things and trends are changing with the younger generation, it may be different in the next election.

There are many websites which featured such negatives which the border upon irony and the writers uses many figures of expression to get through their meaning which sometime outsiders hardly had any idea about. One such site is For example is [[1]]talkingcock.com. However, there are many discussion groups like Sgforum etc...if anyone interested want to know more about the subject of Politics of Singapore
