Introduction
The 1971 Bus Reorganisation was conducted on 11th April 1971 and all 130 existing bus routes, operated by 12 different bus operators were rationalised and reorganised. The aim for the Bus Reorganisation was to minimise the possible duplication of bus routes. Besides that, a new fare stage based fare was also introduced.
In the Bus Reorganisation, the bus services were operated by 4 bus companies as a result of the merger. They are the Amalgamated Bus Co. (ABC), Associated Bus Services (ABS) and United Bus Co. (UBC), together with the Singapore Traction Co. (STC), whereby STC had lose its monopolisation to run its bus routes within the city.
