Construction accident

On 11 March 2012, Masud al-Mamun, 35, was killed at the site after a concrete slab fell on him. At the time of accident, he was operating an excavator deep in the ground. Rescuers had to use a breaking tool kit to break a portion of the concrete slab. It took nearly five hours to reach the man lying motionless on the ground. This is the first casualty related case in the construction of the Downtown Line.[1]

2017 train disruption

In the morning of 3 May 2017 at around 7.30am, train services towards Chinatown (Downtown Line) were disrupted for 7 hours due to a platform screen door (PSD) malfunction. This was due to a signalling-related fault which resulted in the doors being unable to open automatically as stated by SBS Transit. The staff first tried to manually operates those doors. However, the decision was eventually made at around 9.35am to close the platform to enable engineers to resolve the fault. The fault was eventually rectified at 12.55pm and the platform was reopened for passenger service. The faulty doors however remained closed for more in-depth repairs to be conducted after the last train departed.[2]

Nature is brought onto the platform with a large mural inspired by the traditional technique of Chinese paper cutting. Paper cuttings of different varieties of plants, seeds, branches, fish and rocks are complemented by a water feature inside the station, serving as a prelude for commuters journeying to the Botanic Gardens.[3]
