Chen began her acting career in 1985 with the Singapore Broadcasting Corporation after completing the drama training course. She is best known for her role as the bumbling school-teacher 'Miss Ai-Yo-Yo' (哎哟哟老師) in the 1989 TV series Good Morning, Sir! (早安老师), which earned her a "Most Unforgettable TV Character" Award in the Star Awards 2003.
