2002 train disruption[edit]

On 21 October 2002, the entire Bukit Panjang LRT was shut down at 6.38am after a disruption caused by a dislodged train wheel, which led to the power system being crippled between Bukit Panjang and Senja stations. Partial LRT services only resumed at 6.30pm on 24 October 2002 and full services at 12pm on 26 October 2002.[2]

2015 train disruption[edit]

On 9 March 2015, during the evening peak hours, the Bukit Panjang LRT was suspended from service for a full 24 hours due to a power trip which was caused by a fire. The fire was caused due to a sudden power surge and the fuse box failed to handle the surge. Usually the fuse box will trip the system and activate safety measures, but on that day the fuse box failed to do so and instead burst into flames. The problem was identified as arcing problem which was why the power "jumped". The reason for how the fire started, however, is still a mystery to this day.[3]
