Abbreviation YIS

Yishun (NS13) is an elevated Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station on the North–South Line. Certain trains will terminate at this station, before travelling back towards Marina South Pier during peak periods.

History

Date Event
20 December 1988 Station officially opens and serves as a terminus for North South Line.
10 February 1996 Woodlands Extension opens, Branch Line integrated into North South Line. No longer a terminus station.
2 December 2009 Half-Height Platform Screen Doors operates
27 June 2012 High Volume, Low Speed Blade fans operates

Bomb plot

On 22 December 2001, the Singapore embassies attack plot was discovered, and had included plans to bomb Yishun MRT Station at several points, including the sewers near the station. This was brought up in a debate during a session of the parliament, by then Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong, during which new security measures were proposed, especially on the MRT system itself.[1]
