I am a gay Chinese Singaporean (R(A) photo [1]& homepage [2]) professional monogamously attached, although in a relatively open relationship, to my partner of more than 16 years. That's longer than the duration some straight couples stay married. Look at Britney Spears' 45-hour marriage...or should that be 'minutes'? It's downright discriminatory that we cannot get married and enjoy the rights straight Singaporeans take for granted, like HDB subsidies and adoption privileges. Homosexuals are virtually second-class citizens in their own country!
I am an ultra-liberal and I take strong exception to the efforts of conservatives, prudes, neo-Luddites, religious fundamentalists and homophobes to try to curb my, or anyone else's expressive space, as long as hate-mongering is not indulged in. The only freedoms I do not support are immediately destructive ones like guns, nuclear weapons and hard drugs.
