The student enrolment is drawn from among the top 10-15% of secondary schools. The unique aspect of the student population is that it comprises students from diverse social and financial backgrounds, regardless of their previous affiliation to school and religion. Given the location of the college, a large proportion of students used to come from neighbourhood schools in the region. In recent years however, the bulk of the student population are from the established or top neighbourhood schools from around the island.

==History==
AJC is the 11th [[junior college]] to be established in Singapore, recieving its first batch of students in [[1984]]. Since then, the junior college has never looked back. Despite its humble beginning, the college has achieved much in the areas of academic, sports, arts and culture over the years. The college crest is formed from the initials of the College. The letter A, in the form of a yellow flame, symbolises the vitality and youthful aspirations of the students.

The dark blue letters, J and C, supporting the flame, symbolise college support for the individual in his efforts to realise his ambition.

The four circles at the base depict racial harmony, highlighting the college motto, NON MIHI SOLUM.
==College Motto==
The college motto, NON MIHI SOLUM, is a Latin expression meaning NOT FOR MYSELF ALONE. It was chosen because the college believes that Singapore will develop into a nation of excellence if each person regards it as his duty to reach his full potential, not only for himself, but for others as well. The college believes that, if every individual considers others in his actions, he will become not only self-disciplined and responsible but also respectful and caring.

NON MIHI SOLUM gives meaning to the lives and endeavours of AJCians. It is the principle that underlies the way of life at AJC.
