Pritam Singh (born 2 August 1976) is the first and current official Leader of the Opposition of Singapore. Ever since he was young, Pritam Singh had an interest in current affairs through reading newspapers and books. He then ascended to the National University of Singapore to pursue subjects in History and Political Science, and won the Straits Steamship Prize in 1999, as well as achieving a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2000.
Pritam Singh served the Singapore Armed Forces from 1994 to 2002 and holds the rank of Major, and a Combat Engineer by vocation.
In 2010, Pritam Singh joined the Workers' Party as he felt that it is the right time for him to step into politics to at least make a positive contribution and difference to Singapore. Subsequently, he was first elected as an MP for Aljunied GRC during the 2011 General Election together, serving the ward of Eunos. In April 2018, he took over as the Secretary-General of the Workers' Party from Low Thia Khiang.
During the 2020 General Elections, Pritam Singh led the Workers' Party in winning 10 seats, with the addition of the newly created 4-seat Sengkang GRC. Afterwards, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong announced Pritam Singh's appointment as the official Leader of the Opposition.
