Goh Chok Tong
Goh Chok Tong (born 20 May 1941) was the second Prime Minister of Singapore, in office from 1990 to 2004. He was appointed as the Deputy Prime Minister from 1985 to 1990 under a managed leadership transition from then-Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew. Under his premiership, he was known for his open-minded and consultative leadership style, and led Singapore in overcoming various crises such as the 1997 Asian Financial Crisis and 2003 SARS outbreak. In 2011, Goh Chok Tong stepped down from the cabinet and was given the the honorary title of Emeritus Senior Minister.
Goh Chok Tong was noted for his contributions as a Member of Parliament (MP) of Marine Parade from 1976 to 2020.[1] He developed Marine Parade from an estate into a vibrant model town for modern Singapore, with the town centre Marine Parade Promenade consisting of shopping malls such as Parkway Parade, as well as a community library and an upgraded polyclinic. Marine Parade estate was also among the first few estates to undergo the Main Upgrading Programme (MUP) launched by him in 1992.
Goh retired from politics in 26 June 2020.
