To date, she has published nine collections of short stories, five novels, two collections of poetry, and several political commentaries. Her commentary The PAP and the people - A Great Affective Divide, published in The Straits Times in 1994, criticised the policies of the ruling party, in turn drawing a heated response from then Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong.
