Ideas

  • Expressway pages to have an illustration of the expressway with one straight line, indicating the exits and adding a simple compass.
  • Create a consolidated Alternative Travel Method main page where all the alternative templates can be viewable in one click.
  • Brainstorm ideas for walking distances between stations.
  • North South Line Complete
  • North East Line Complete
  • Thomson East Coast Line Complete
  • Circle Line Complete

Pinned notes

  • To check on whether walking from EW14|NS26 to BS03381 The Sail will be viable.
  • To determine travelling from Tiong Bahru by TEL3->DTL2->180 & BPLRT/974
  • Update CCL alternative travel of 91 with limited ops warning
  • Make all advisories of alternate operating hours collapsible eg. 107/M
  • Remember to update walking/DTL for Marina Bay to Bayfront
  • contribute to the travel time templates and exit templates where possible
  • - Unless the only services that served between 2 MRT/LRT station operates on selected timing, than that should only be included, with remarks on the operating hours.
  • strongly encourage to list those route without Express/Premium Service as a FIRST option, followed by those full-day Express/Premium Service which offer an even faster travel alternative than the first option.
  • limit the duration of walk transfer, as we know Singapore is too hot and humid for walking long hours, to about 5 mins walk per transfer. As a rough gauge, the distance covered by 5 mins is roughly 400m. Do also consider the route taken should be barrier-free (for the disabled users)

CBD to Marsiling, Bus or MRT (Pin for reference, do not remove)

Hi, after comptempting your reasoning for Marsiling and done some additional research this is what I had observed:

  • Travelling time for 190/972 from CBD to Bukit Panjang is approx 40 mins.
  • Travelling time for 187/963/966 from Bukit Panjang to Marsiling is approx 25 mins.
  • Travelling time for DTL/CCL/TEL from Newton to Woodlands is approx 40 mins.
  • Travelling time for 187/856/925/925M/960/961/961M/963/966 from Woodlands to Marsiling is approx 10 mins.
  • Travelling time for 972M from Dhoby Ghaut to Newton is approx 10 mins.

Therefore, the conclusion that I could infer is:

  • Newton: MRT to Woodlands, transfer by bus is much faster (Time saving of 15 mins).
  • Orchard - Dhoby Ghaut: If there is direct bus to Bukit Panjang which heavily uses BKE/PIE, then the travelling time is on par with MRT (currently).
    • The travelling time to Newton actually offset the time saving of 15 mins in the first case.

Some remarks that I noticed:

  • 960 to Bukit Panjang MRT is much slower than DTL, as it winds in Bukit Panjang (From BKE, go to Pending, Petir then Bukit Panjang, following the LRT tracks), where the most direct route is taken by 187, which deviate from the LRT tracks.

Add on:

Nowadays, bus crawls on expressway. For example, in the past, I can take 858 from Khatib and reach Changi T3 within 30 mins, but nowadays its usually 45 mins, despite no traffic. I also remember there once time I regret taking 960e from Rochor to Woodlands as it took approx 1 hour (thanks to bus crawling on highway to keep to schedule). Usually, when I took 187/963/966 from Blk 270 to Woodlands, it took about 30-35 mins. So if work out to be 20-25 mins to Marsiling. I believed the speed reduction is due to the BCM on-time tracking bah. Occasionally, I manage to take trip which had what you mention the time period (driver's factor play a role). Sadly, I missed those day where buses literally speed down the expressway...

Reply: Yes, really a pity......

TEL3/Diversions affecting alternative travel methods

Hi,

Yes, stations like Bayfront, Orchard etc keep on having road diversion, especially on large scale, but I feel that this can be made on the sidenote first. It seems that past breakdowns and disruptions don't really occur (or like to occur) when major events happen (never heard of 1 incident before). But as Morphy's Law applies, it may happen sooner also. Also notice there a trend in breakdown, with weekdays having the most occurence, and once in a blue moon is Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays.

As for TEL3, you may feel free to include in first. I am in the midst of analysing the bus bridging stops and the distance between stations. In my opinion, the breakdown could be relatively simple.

  • The breakdown will follow like the rest of the line
  • TE1 to TE10 = 1 section
  • TE11 to TE20 = 1 section
  • TE21 to TE22 = 1 section
    • As of now we keep TEL1+TEL2 && TEL3 as 2 sections because TE10 and TE21 not in operation. So TE22 alone not justify for 1 new section I feel.

Noted and thanks!
