Re: Alternative Travel Options
Hi,
Thanks for the updates. Recently I had been pondering a question regarding this.
1. When a rail was done, it was typically in sector. Hardly will the whole line went down. So should the alternative travel options groups by sector?
i.e. For the North South Line, disruptions is usually between:
- Jurong East - Choa Chu Kang
- Choa Chu Kang - Woodlands
- Woodlands - Yishun
- Yishun - Ang Mo Kio
- Ang Mo Kio - Toa Payoh/Newton
- Toa Payoh/Newton - Raffles Place
- Raffles Place - Marina South Pier
So, this means that for the rest, one can hop on back to the same line past the disruption sector which will speed out travelling time.
2. In the event for the whole line is down, sometimes the Rail Bridging Service is the best option.
i.e. For the East West Line, if I am at Pasir Ris and heading towards Boon Lay, I am better off taking the Bridging Services as multiple transfer may not even be faster than the bridging service.
3. Regarding the Walking Distance, I think no need to keep the standardised 5 minutes, but as a gauge of thumb "80 metres = 1 minute". So we can keep this instead. Secondly, I don't think 5 minutes rule should apply because of the proximity of nearby stations, especially in the CBD.
i.e. Travelling to TEL Maxwell. In the event of TEL breakdown, I might as well walk from Outram Park/Chinatown to Maxwell (and vice-versa) rather than taking the long detour of bus transfer (80) and other services to reach it. Walking may even be faster than bus.
But nevertheless, the route should be easier to understand and navigate across, and as comfortable as possible in the hot climate / at night as disruption may occurs any time.
My Plans
1. As per usual, I am going to update everything with the opening of TEL4 and NELe (and the distance between stations, i.e. is horribly difficult, plus the acronym of the stations). I not sure whether is it intentionally or not, but I feel like LTA is going to scrap the three letter abbreviation (i.e. XPO for Expo, CGA for Changi Airport) as it was getting harder and harder to obtain/find such information in station. In the past, I can easily go to the headwall/tailwall and read from there, but is seems they started not to post it there anymore and refer to "TExx" etc for abbreviation.
Similiarly, the reason why terminus station had dropped the terminus circle-number is because LTA seems to omit (or put it less obvious for older one) and the new signage omits completely and refer to the normal "TExx" etc for terminus.
2. Next up, for the first/last train, but I suspect the first Southbound trip for NSL (First train departing from Bishan and Kranji respectively) actually terminates and turnaround at Marina Bay (LTA publicises as Marina South Pier instead), while the first train from Jurong East is the first Marina South Pier train. I am trying to narrow down and observe for the other lines, and of course update the BPLRT first/last train timing for Service A (Operating on Saturday now also)
3. To make the wiki even more meaningful, I not really sure should I create pages aka "how to" for tourism such as
- How to board a train/bus, travel using public transport, tips
- Navigate between Changi Airport Terminals/Jewels
- Heading to Malaysia via Land
- Going to Pulau Ubin/Southern Islands/Sentosa
- Flight Schedule (in/out of Changi/Seletar Airport)
- Recommended food to eat
And such a meaning means, these page will most likely featured in multiple languages, I am thinking of writing in Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Malay, English first.
