First announced by LTA on 16 June 2011, construction of the depot would commence at the end of 2012 and is expected to be an underground depot - the third in Singapore. The Mandai Depot is a full maintenance MRT depot.

Located at a 32-hectare site (1) bounded by Mandai Road, Seletar Expressway and Lor Lada Hitam, it is within the Mandai Agrotechnology Park.(2) and has the capacity to stable up to 90 trains.(3)
