The Governor of Singapore was an official appointed by the British Crown or Cabinet to oversee Singapore, under supervision of the Colonial Office. Upon self-rule in 1959, the post was abolished.

Role[edit]

The first true Governor of Singapore post was established when Singapore became a Crown Colony, following the dissolution of the Straits Settlements in 1946.

Predecessors of the post included the Governor of the Straits Settlements and the Resident of Singapore.
