Lee Chuang Rui (born February 11, 1990), also known as Shawn Lee, is a Singaporean former actor. He first came into prominence for his award-winning performance alongside his friend and co-star Joshua Ang in the box office hit I Not Stupid.

Career[edit]

Lee was one of four child actors who successfully auditioned for the child lead roles in Jack Neo's hit film I Not Stupid. His performance in the sitcom adaptation earned him a nomination for the Best Young Talent award, which he won, along with co-stars Joshua Ang and Eric Huang at the 2002 Star Awards.

In the early 2000s, Lee also had roles in a few Channel 8 children's drama series. He also had an English speaking role in the Growing Years video series commissioned by MOE.

He would go on to star alongside them in three more of Neo's films. He filmed his second last movie in 2007 before leaving the industry to concentrate on his A-levels. His last role to date was in Neo's new film We Not Naughty, which was released during Chinese New Year 2012 and features former I Not Stupid co-stars Joshua Ang, Ashley Leong, and Xiang Yun.

Lee hosted the Young Talents Award with former co-star Megan Tay at the Star Awards 2011.

In a 2009 interview with The New Paper, Lee said he was planning on pursuing a film studies scholarship at New York University. However, in a 2012 interview, he said he planned to go into banking after completing his studies, and probably take up roles only when time allowed.

Lee was commonly confused with Aloysius Pang, a fellow child actor who was the same age. When Pang died in January 2019, some foreign news sources mistakenly reported that Pang was the one who had acted in I Not Stupid.
