Fuchun Secondary School (abbreviation: FCSS) is a co-educational government school in Woodlands, Singapore, founded in 1986.

There are about 1,500 students. In 2006, the school achieved 5 MOE awards.

The address is 21 Woodlands Avenue, Singapore 1, and the nearest MRT station is Marsiling.

The Principal is Miss Ranjit Kaur and the Vice-Principals are Mr Sebasian Jin and Miss Paule Fun Kar Whye.

The school runs an integrated Character Development programme and a Student Leadership programme to build character and leadership in the students, an afternoon tutorial programme, and structured study time to support student learning. It is also developing its niche in Performing Arts to cater to the students' diverse talents.

History

Fuchun started on 2 January 1986 with a student population of 109. The task of establishing a mission and an identity for the school fell to the pioneer principal, Mrs Ngiam Geak Kim, and her staff of nine teachers.

In 1991 Fuchun set up the first Lower Secondary Macintosh laboratory. Teachers used IT for the first time in teaching Mathematics. Students went through an IT programme where they learned to use various software.

In 1992 Fuchun came second for value-addedness in the Special/Express stream among 139 secondary schools in the first ranking of schools by the Ministry of Education. The same year, Fuchun took part for the first time in the Singapore Youth Festival, with a mass dance by the Lower Secondary girls. They also performed at the National Day Celebrations. The first school newsletter, the Fuchun News, was produced in January 1992.

1995 was the year when the school initiated work experience for its students. A group of Secondary Three students worked with the Singapore Zoological Gardens during the November holidays. Since then, students have been involved in work experience at Baxter Healthcare Private Limited.

In 1996 the school bade farewell to Mrs Ngiam, and welcomed Mr Johari Mohd Rais as the new Principal. Fuchun was awarded the title "Most Improved Neighbourhood School".

A new extension building was completed in November 1998. It boasts two computer labs, 3 IT-enabled rooms, 9 classrooms, 6 special rooms and 3 CCA rooms.

In 2001 the first annual school magazine was produced. The year also marked the official opening of the Performing Arts Studio by SAC Chairman, Mr Phillip Lee.

In 2002 Mrs Chuah-Koh Eng Ngoh took over as Principal.

Discipline

Caning (for boys only) is inflicted for fighting, smoking, bullying, defiance and disrespect, vandalism, persistent latecoming, truancy, theft, and outrage of modesty. For cheating and repeated serious offences, there is public caning. The punishment, typically one or two strokes, is delivered by the Discipline Master, sometimes in front of the student's classmates. The strokes are applied across the seat of the trousers.

In 2007 it was announced that Fuchun students making irresponsible use of mobile phones -- such as taking pictures or videos with them on school premises -- would be caned (boys) or given a corrective work order (girls) and suspended.

School Song

Upon the shoulders of all
Rest the task of discerning truth
And remaining true to oneself
In all we say and do
Say and do

Chorus:

Fuchun, you're guide and mentor
Within your boundaries we extend our horizon
With what we learn
To prepare us for what's beyond
Fuchun, you're our guiding star
(Fuchun, you're our guiding star)

We pledge to serve as one
Along the pathway of Honour and Truth
And to serve with loyalty to school and nation
