The two b's emphasise the motto 'Be Our Best', the gold representing the reward of having achieved our best, the red representing the community that has made this effort. The hill (or Bukit) represents the effort that must come before achievement, as well as the aspiration behind being 'Our Best'.

==Uniform and discipline==
Students must wear a cream shirt or blouse, with grey trousers or skirt. Lower secondary boys wear short trousers. Upper secondary boys wear longs.([https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BxYIJATzZn9NNmUwY2RlNzItZmU5NC00Y2JkLWI0ZmItNGVlZDA3ZjBiYzIz/edit?hl=en_GB&pli=1 Rules and Regulations], Bukit Batok Secondary School, p.1.)

Boys who commit offences such as smoking, vandalism, fighting, bullying, gambling, gangsterism, smoking, cheating, defiance, skipping lessons, and truancy receive corporal punishment ([[Caning in Singapore|caning]]), as do those who arrive late for school for a fourth time onwards. (Rules and Regulations, pp.7-8.) The cane strokes, typically two or three, are applied across the student's buttocks as he bends over a table. Often this takes place in the school office, but in some cases the punishment is carried out in front of his classmates, although female students who prefer not to witness the ceremony may be permitted to leave the room. Usually the caning is delivered by Mr Neo (Operations Manager).

The official rules stipulate that male students who smoke in school uniform will be caned even if they are aged over 18, when smoking is no longer against the law of Singapore as it is for all under 18.

Girls who offend in these same ways are liable to be suspended.

Before 1998, the school had been at a low ebb, with truancy, absenteeism and gangsterism common, but it was turned around by a new principal "enforcing caning more vigorously", thus producing a dramatic improvement in the school's results. ===Habits of Mind (HOM)===
Habits of Mind (HOM) enable students to behave intelligently when they don't know the answer or when they are faced with challenging situations. HOM will equip our students holistically for the challenges of the 21st century. It helps to develop a thirst for questioning and searching, within and outside the classroom. In particular, HOM inculcates good learning habits and thinking dispositions so that our students can become self-directed, life-long learners.

===Individual Self-Paced Learning (ISPL)===
The school started the ISPL programme (an adapted version by Dr J Lloyd Trump) with Sec 3 Exp students in 2004 and extended to Sec 3 and 4 Exp students in 2005 and 2006. The intent is to instill in students the importance and need to be independent learner and to allow for less teaching and more learning. Students have to take ownership of their own learning to view learning as an active process, to self-manage and self-monitor.

===Malay Special Programme (MSP)===
Malay Special Programme(MSP) MSP is one of the Ministry of Education's 3rd language programme. It used to be a Programme that is offered only to the top 30% of the PSLE cohort but has been expanded to anyone with the interest and inclination to do so beginning year 2006.
