The Changi Airport Extension (part of East West Line) was the second Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) line in Singapore to be built. The line is currently 49.2 km long with 31 stations, and operated by SMRT Corporation. It takes about one hour to travel from end to end and this line is coloured green on MRT system maps.
As the name implies, the line connects central Singapore to both western and eastern parts of the island, with an additional branch to Changi Airport MRT Station from Tanah Merah MRT Station. Cross-platform transfer to the North South MRT Line is provided at Jurong East MRT Station, City Hall MRT Station and Raffles Place MRT Station stations while transfer to the North East MRT Line at Outram Park MRT Station is possible via a linkway.

- 4 November 1989: City Hall MRT Station - Tanah Merah MRT Station (start of the separation of the North South MRT Line from the East West Line)
2nd phase of development
- 10 January 2001: Tanah Merah MRT Station - Expo MRT Station
- 8 February 2002: Expo MRT Station - Changi Airport MRT Station

Rolling stock
Three batches of rolling stock are in service on the line, i.e. the Kawasaki Heavy Industries C151, the Siemens C651 and the Kawasaki Heavy Industries & Nippon Sharyo C751B. These trains operate from the two depots along the East West Line, the Ulu Pandan Depot near Jurong East MRT Station and the Changi Depot after Tanah Merah MRT Station.
