Introduction

The implementation of Wheelchair-Accessible Bus Services (WAB) was launched for Service 21 on 26th June 2006 after the consultation from the Voluntary Welfare Organisation (VWOs) and the Land Transport Authority (LTA). The first 10 WAB-friendly double-decker buses, which is the Volvo B9TL (CDGE) buses were deployed on Service 21.

Service 21 was chosen as it serves the key medical facilities such as the Tan Tock Seng Hospital and welfare organisations such as the Handicaps Welfare Organisation located at Moulmein Rd.

Over the years, several existing bus services had launched its Wheelchair-Accessible Bus Services, providing better public transport for the passengers-in-wheelchair (PIW) bound. This was introduced progressively, given that there are more newer WAB buses which were rolled-out as part of the fleet renewal.
