Bombardier INNOVIA C801 (APM 100) is an automated people mover (APM) train cars built by Adtranz (now Bombardier Transportation) for the use on the Bukit Panjang LRT line and the former Singapore Changi Airport Skytrain until March 2006. These train cars are mainly for airport connections and light rail in towns, operating by Automatic Train Control (ATC), making it fully automatic and driverless.
Fleet Numbering
The car numbers of the trains range from 101 to 119.
The train cars are also similar to the vehicles formerly used at Singapore Changi Airport Skytrain system in the early 1990s, jointly built by Westinghouse and Adtranz (acquired by Bombardier).

C801 Fleet Info

Operation
The C801 train cars are fully automated, without attendant, running on a system similarly to the C801A trains.

Trains can be coupled for two-car operations.

Features
Rubber-tired wheels are used to run on a concrete track and windows mist within 6 meters of residential buildings, eliminating both noise and privacy concerns.

Refurbishment
SMRT is considering a mid-life refurbishment of the existing 19 Bombardier INNOVIA C801 train cars.

If plans go through, it will be the first major overhaul for the C801 train cars. The refurbished train cars will have upgraded air-conditioning and air compressors together with an improved braking system.

Trainset numbers
Individual cars are given a three-digit serial number by the rail operator, SMRT Corporation, ranging from 101 to 119.

Bombardier INNOVIA C801 are the first generation of trains running on the Bukit Panjang LRT.

History

The trains have been operating since the BPLRT opening in 1999. If such plans go through, it will be the first major overhaul for the train cars. The refurbished train cars will have upgraded air-conditioning and air compressors together with an improved braking system plus installing Close Circuit Televisions (CCTV) under each train car to monitor under the train cars. However, plans of replacing the train cars are not ruled out by LTA.

Defects in the C801 rolling stock

Minor defects in the C801 rolling stock were found in 2015 during a routine assessment by Bombardier.[1] The main cause for such cracks, which was no larger than 12cm, were due to "normal wear and tear" and had since been repaired.

Replacement

On 7 March 2018, the Land Transport Authority awarded the contract for renewing the Bukit Panjang LRT system to Bombardier at a cost of $344 million. [2] Under the contract, all of the 19 C801 trains would be withdrawn from service, and replaced by the new C801B trains.
