Yishun is a planning area in the north region and is bounded in a clockwise direction by Sungei Simpang Kiri (waterbody), Yishun Avenue 8, Yishun Avenue 1, Seletar West Link, Seletar Expressway (SLE), Mandai Avenue, and Sembawang Road. The planning area is further subdivided into 9 subzones.

Etymology
The name Yishun (Chinese: 义顺) is the Mandarin Chinese transliteration of "Nee Soon", named after Lim Nee Soon (Chinese: 林義順), a well-known industrialist who amassed his wealth through rubber and pineapple plantations in the area.[3]
