Dakota station

Dakota MRT Station (CC8) is an underground MRT station on the Circle Line in Singapore. It it located near to Mountbatten station and serve the area of Old Kallang Airport Estate and residents living along Dunman Road. The livery of the station concourse is green and white.

On the Circle Line, it is between Mountbatten and Paya Lebar stations.

The construction of Dakota Station and the tracks led to the closure of the stretch of Old Airport Rd between Cassia Link and Guillemard Camp Rd in March 2006. Instead, Jln Tiga was extended to Guillemard Rd, opening up a traffic junction there. In addition, the old Guillemard Camp Rd was widened to provide public buses enough space to drive through. Despite the widening of the road, there have been several accidents occurring near the T-junction of Guillemard Rd and Guillemard Camp Rd. The closed stretch of Old Airport Rd has since re-opened on 29 December 2008 at 5am.⁽¹⁾

Built in the middle of a HDB estate and within walking distance of several schools, the station serves many residents in the area. Food enthusiasts living far away can also travel here to the legendary Old Airport Road Hawker Centre.

It is named after the Dakota DC-3 aircraft that commonly used to land at the nearby Kallang Airport when it was still in commercial use.

2011 Service Disruption

On 20 September 2011, almost 27,000 morning rush-hour commuters were affected by the disruption of train services on all 16 Circle Line stations. Preliminary investigations have shown that a faulty cable located below the platform level of Dakota Station caused a power trip that affected the entire Circle Line system.

SMRT said the disruption started at about 5.30am. It added that train service from Marymount to Paya Lebar, and Dhoby Ghaut to Stadium, resumed at 8.30am. Full services were up and running again just before 10am.

The disruption comes some two weeks before the final 12 stations of the Circle Line are opened for service.

This was the largest shutdown of the Circle Line since its opening in 2009.⁽²⁾
