SMRT Trains
  • From Sunday, 14 November 2024 to 31 October 2025, Train services on the Bukit Panjang LRT will end an hour earlier at 22:30 every Thursday to Sunday (except Public Holidays). This is to facilitate the upgrading of the BPLRT signalling system, as well as the testing of the new and retrofitted Light Rail Vehicles (LRVs) on the BPLRT network. Novena (NS20) is an underground Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station on the North–South Line.

History

Etymology

The station was named after the popular weekly Novena devotion sessions held at the nearby Catholic Church of Saint Alphonsus or more popularly known as Novena Church. The term "Novena" is derived from the Latin word "Novem" which means nine, and which refers to prayers said for nine consecutive days.[1]

Cultural Impact

The station is rumoured to be haunted, possibly because the area used to be the site of a Jewish cemetery.[2]
