Alstom Metropolis C751A is the first generation of communication-based train control (CBTC) rolling stock to be used in Singapore’s Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) lines.
History
In 1997 and 1998, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) awarded the contract for the supply of North East Line trains to Alstom.
A development in Singapore's MRT history, the trains on the North East Line are powered by overhead catenary, in contrast with the other trains on all other lines in Singapore which are powered by a third rail as the authorities consider overhead wires to be unsightly which does not allow for elevated line trains to be powered. Being the first fully underground line in Singapore, the authorities had a choice between powering the North East Line trains by overhead catenary or third rail.[1] An overhead catenary power supply was decided upon.
