2001 train disruption

In the evening of 29 August 2001, an LRT train had hit a switch beam at 5.40pm. This results in a power failure for the whole line. Train service was resumed at 10.15am the next day, affecting about 10,000 commuters. [2]

Downtown Line station naming controversy

On 15 July 2008, when the station locations were revealed for Downtown Line 2, the working name of the station was revealed as Petir, but led to concerns that there would be confusion with Petir, which the station was not near to.[3] After a series of public polling by Land Transport Authority (LTA), on 16 June 2009, the finalised station name was revealed to be Bukit Panjang.[4]

The location of the station and the lack of a connection to the LRT system caused local Members of Parliament (MP) to request a review, but was rejected by the LTA saying that it would be a "technical constraint" to force the line to curve sharply within a short distance to allow for a normal interchange station to be built. However, it added that a covered linkway would be built between the MRT and the LRT stations.[5]

Sinkhole incident

Excavation works for the Downtown Line 2 caused a massive sinkhole on Woodlands Road on 16 March 2013. The construction destabilised the soil, which ruptured an underground water pipe. The rupture which was as wide as one of the road's lanes, appeared near West View Primary School, next to where construction work is being carried out.[6]

Construction fire

A fire broke out at a construction site for the Downtown Line in the early hours of 9 April 2014. No injuries were reported and the fire was put out in 30 minutes. Thick smoke could be seen from the work site in Bukit Panjang, near Junction 10 mall.[7]
