Construction fire
No one was injured in a fire that broke out at a Downtown Line worksite along Race Course Road on the evening of 26 March 2014. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) told that a "small fire" had broken out at a "localised area" within the worksite. "There is also no impact to DTL2 construction progress," added a spokesperson for the LTA, who added that the fire was put out by 10pm, after it first broke out about half an hour earlier.[1]
Artworks
North East Line: Memoirs of the Past by S. Chandrasekaran
This series of evocative, sepia-toned works celebrate Indian culture through traditional Indian folk art forms and elaborate bronze and granite floor works. Stylised animal paintings adorn the walls, alluding to the buffalo stables that gave the surrounding area its local name.[2]
Downtown Line: Woven Field by Grace Tan
The glimmering installation of geometric patterns made of aluminium was inspired by the patterns in traditional Indian saris. The tessellated triangular patterns also integrate the notion of weaving, interlacing the architecture and artwork to form a single entity.[2]
