'''Alstom Metropolis C751A''' is the first generation of communication-based train control (CBTC) rolling stock to be used in Singapore’s [[Mass Rapid Transit (Singapore)|Mass Rapid Transit]] (MRT) lines.
==Fleet Numbering==

The car numbers of the trains range from 7x001 to 7x050, where x depends on the carriage type.

A development in Singapore's MRT history, the trains on the North East Line are powered by overhead catenary, in contrast with the other trains on all other lines in Singapore which are powered by a third rail as the authorities consider overhead wires to be unsightly which does not allow for elevated line trains to be powered. Being the first fully underground line in Singapore, the authorities had a choice between powering the North East Line trains by overhead catenary or third rail.<ref>[http://www.tsd.org/cbtc/projects/SIG_Singapore_AutomaticMetro_en.pdf  "Singapore Northeast Line: will soon be the largest, fully automatic metro system in the world"]</ref> An overhead catenary power supply was decided upon.

==Operation==
The C751A trains run on an automated system (without attendant), relying on "continuous two-way digital communication" between each controlled train and the control centre that controls the entire line.

==Features==
===Liquid Central Displays (LCD)===
Six LCDs are installed at the overhead panel in each carriage that show advertisements, route information, silent commercials and movie trailers as well as safety videos. All units have ceased from showing commercials due to the lack of demand.

===Platform Gap Width Reduction (PGWR)===
To prevent passenger accidents due to the platform gap, additional metal strips were installed (only on 7029/7030) at the edge of every door to narrow the platform gap.

===Visual Passenger Information System (VPIS)===
Two VPIS are installed in each carriage that provides commuters with their route information throughout their journey. <ref>[http://www.stee.com.sg/pdf/railway_systems/VPIS_Eng.pdf Visual Passenger Information System for Singapore MRT and LRT lines]</ref>
==Trainset numbers==
Individual cars are given a five-digit serial number by the rail operator, SBS Transit, numbers ranging from 7x001 to 7x050, whereby "x" depends on the carriage type.

* The first digit is always a 7.
* The second digit denotes the carriage of the train, with 1, 2 and 3.
* The third digit is always a 0.
* The last 2 digits are used as the train identification number.

Alstom Metropolis 751A are the first generation of trains running on the North East Line.

History[edit]

The trains on the North East Line are powered by overhead catenary, a first in history. Rolling stock on all the other operating lines are powered by a third rail because the authorities considered overhead wires to be unsightly and did not allow for trains to be powered using this method on elevated lines. Since this line is the first to be fully underground, the authorities had a choice between powering the trains on this line by overhead catenary or third rail.[1].

Refurbishment[edit]

In December 2018, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) had awarded the contract worth about $116.7 million to CRRC Nanjing Puzhen for the refurbishment of 751A.[2] The trains' interior, such as seats, panels, and flooring, will be replaced whereas the air-conditioning & ventilation systems will be upgraded. The trains will also be retrofitted with new passenger information displays. The first refurbished train was completed in 2022 and works on the remaining trains are expected to be completed by 2024.

Fleet Numbering[edit]

The car numbers of the trains range from 7x001 to 7x050, where x depends on the carriage type.

  • The second digit identifies the position of the car from the closest end of the train; where ‘1’ represents first car, ‘2’ represents second car and ‘3’ represents third car.
    • (Example) Passenger Vehicle 7049/7050 would consist of 6 cars with serial number 71049, 72049, 73049, 73050, 72050 and 71050 respectively.
  • Depending on the direction of travel, the sequence may be reversed.
