Fare and Ticketing
Since 3 July 2010, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and Public Transport Council (PTC) had launched the new fare collection model - Distance-Based Fare (DBF). This means that the fares payable are based on the total distance traveled, hence benefiting transferring commuters.

Transferring Rules
In order for a valid transfer, the following conditions must be met:
- All journeys must be within 2 hours of the first boarding (on the same journey).
- Maximum of 5 transfers can be made within a journey.
- 45 minutes for transfers between rail station and bus service, or between different bus services.
- 15 minutes for transfers between different rail stations.
- Current bus service must not be the same number as the preceding bus service.
- Terminating trip for dual-loop feeders service and transfer to its non-terminating trip at respective interchange will consist as a single trip.
- No exit and re-entry at the same station (15 minutes for transfer at Bukit Panjang, Choa Chu Kang, Newton and Tampines stations).
Fare Calculation
When a combination of fare structure was involved in a calculation, such as Feeder Bus Service --> MRT, the approaches that the LTA and PTC uses are calculation from the expensive fare structures FIRST.
Rail Only
As there are many way(s) a commuters may choose to travel when in the train network, the approaches that the LTA and PTC uses are based on the shortest journey distance, irregardless of the time taken between route alternative.
Bus Only
For example, assuming an adult commuter who pay by card fare, board Feeder 911 from Woodlands Centre Rd (Bus Stop 46069) to Woodlands Reg Int, transfer and board Feeder 912 from Woodlands Reg Int to Woodlands Dr 50 (Bus Stop 46661). The following will be a breakdown on how the fare is calculated.
Journey Legs | Distance | Accumulated Distance |
Fare |
---|---|---|---|
Bus (Feeder 911) (W'lands Train Checkpoint → Woodlands Reg Int) |
2.7 km | 2.7 km | $0.92 |
Bus (Feeder 912) (Woodlands Reg Int → Opp Blk 896B) |
1.4 km | 4.1 km | $0.10 ($1.02-$0.92) |
Total | $1.02 |
In this example, even though both bus services that the commuter boarded were Feeder Services, the fares are charged based on Distance Fare for Basic/Trunk Service, limiting at 3.2 km per journey leg.
Bus and Rail
For example, assuming an adult commuter who pay by card fare, board Feeder Service 293 from Tampines St 45 (Bus Stop 76279) to Tampines Int, transfer and board the train from Tampines (EWL) to Bayfront (CCL/DTL). The following will be a breakdown of how the fare is calculated.

Note: This section may be out-of-date as the discrepancy may have been verified. |

Commuters travelling between a bus-stop may be charged differently based on the service taken, despite the same route taken. The following are the list of discrepancy.
Boarding Stop | Alighting Stop | Bus Service(s) | Distance | Bus Service(s) | Distance | Reason |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
(76199) Blk 503 | (75009) Tampines Int | 0.3 km | 0.6 km | Different Berth was used at Tampines Int (East/West Wings) | ||
(80151) Opp Suntec City | (92091) Opp One Amber | 5.9 km | 5.5 km | Distance based on parent service | ||
(92099) One Amber | (80159) Suntec City | 5.9 km | 5.4 km | Distance based on parent service |
