The Bombardier MOVIA C951 is a type of train built by Bombardier Transportation for use on the Downtown Line, Singapore, which is presently being built.
Fleet Numbering
The car numbers of the trains range from 9001x to 9092x, where x depends on the carriage type.
73 trainsets consisting of 3 cars each were purchased at a cost of approximately S$689.7 million for passenger service. Bombardier beat Alstom, Kawasaki Heavy Industries and Hyundai Rotem in the tendering process as the lowest cost offered.

New features include:
* an ergonomic seat profile;
* red reserved seats, which allows for clearer separation between normal and reserved seats;
* perch seats, replacing the two-seaters at the ends of the car;
* hand grips utilising joints instead of straps, providing commuters a steadier grip;

The train will also retain existing features like having two rows of poles and hand grips, and vertical poles which split into three at the center.

Dynamic Route Map Display (DRMD)
The Dynamic Route Map Display (DRMD), a rail travel information system, is newly introduced and developed for the C951 trains.

Platform Gap Width Reduction (PGWR)
The train doors have a frangible gap made of rubber that protrudes out. The platform-train gap will then be reduced, preventing passenger accidents due to the platform gap.

Others
The train will have regenerative braking which is usable over a larger range of speeds. This will generate electricity when the train slows, feeding it back to the rail network.

Trainset numbers
Individual cars are given a five-digit serial number by the rail operator, SBS Transit. The car numbers of the trains range from 9001x to 9073x, where x depends on the carriage type.
* The first digit is always a 9.
* The next three digits is the train identification number. A full length train of 3 cars will have the same identification number. For example, train 9010 would consist of 3 cars with serial number 90101, 90102, 90103 respectively.
* The last digit depends upon whether the car is the first, second or third car from the end of the train, where the first car has a 1, the second has a 2, the third has a 3.

Bombardier Movia 951 is the only type of trains running on the Downtown Line. These trains were manufactured from 2012 to 2017 under the Contract 951.

History[edit]

Bombardier Transportation was awarded Contract 951 in 2008 at a cost of $570.7 million for the construction of 219 passenger cars.[1]

Land Transport Authority exercised the option for Contract 951 in 2013 at a cost of $119.2 million for the additional construction of 45 passenger cars. [2]

Land Transport Authority then exercised its option again for the second time later in 2013 for the additional construction of 12 passenger cars, bringing the total number of trainsets to 92.

Operation[edit]

The 951 trains run on an automated system (without attendant), relying on "continuous two-way digital communication" between each controlled train and the control centre that controls the entire line.

Fleet Numbering[edit]

The car numbers of the trains range from 9001x to 9092x, where x depends on the carriage type.

  • The last digit identifies the position of the car from the front end of the train; where ‘1’ represents first car, ‘2’ represents second car and ‘3’ represents third car.
    • (Example) Passenger Vehicle 003 (also 9003) would consist of 3 cars with serial number 90031, 90032, 90033 respectively.
  • Depending on the direction of travel, the sequence may be reversed.
