Fare and Ticketing

Since 3 July 2010, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and Public Transport Council (PTC) had launched the new fare collection model - Distance-Based Fare (DBF). This means that the fares payable are based on the total distance traveled, hence benefiting transferring commuters.

Fares

All figures stated below are valid for payment by CEPAS card or any other valid card.

Rail Fare

• Notes:
  • Children who height is above 0.9m (under the age of 7) are required to have a child concession card.
  • A $0.50 or the equivalent rail fare, whichever is lower, discount applied if commuters tap in to any MRT/LRT station before 7.45am on Weekdays except Public Holidays.

Transferring Rules

In order for a valid transfer, the following conditions must be met:

• All journeys must be within 2 hours of the first boarding (on the same journey).
• Maximum of 5 transfers can be made within a journey.
• 45 minutes for transfers between rail station and bus service, or between different bus services.
• 15 minutes for transfers between different rail stations.
• Current bus service must not be the same number as the preceding bus service.
• Terminating trip for dual-loop feeders service and transfer to its non-terminating trip at respective interchange will consist as a single trip.
• No exit and re-entry at the same station (15 minutes for transfer at Bukit Panjang, Choa Chu Kang, Newton and Tampines stations).

Fare Calculation

When a combination of fare structure was involved in a calculation, such as Feeder Bus Service → MRT, fares are calculated using the most expensive fare structures FIRST.

Take note of the following fare payment calculation when using the old CEPAS Card Based Ticketing (CBT) and the new SimplyGo Accounting Based Ticketing (ABT) when using the following network.

Rail Network

As there are many ways a commuters may choose to travel in the train network, the approaches that was used was to take the shortest possible distance, irregardless of the time taken.

LTA formally uses the shortest travelling time to determine the fare when Distance Based Fare was launched, which was reverted to the shortest possible distance some time in 2015.

Notes

• ¹ - Only Newton, Bukit Panjang, Tampines, Choa Chu Kang stations are allowed where transferring between lines are done within 15 minutes.

Bus only

Feeders service are capped at 3.2km per journey leg, despite transferring between services.

However, transferring between terminating feeder trips service at last calling stop (i.e. Interchanges) and transfer to the same feeder service at the same stop within 45 minutes does not consider as a new trip.

Distance Discrepancy

Commuters travelling between a bus-stop may be charged differently based on the service taken, despite the same route taken. The following are the list of discrepancy.
