===Casualty incident===
===Construction accident===
On 11 March 2012, a worker was killed at a site near the Botanic Gardens, beside the contractor's site office after a concrete slab fell on him. Masud al-Mamun, 35, was operating an excavator deep in the ground when the slab fell on him. Rescuers had to use a breaking tool kit to break a portion of the concrete slab. It took nearly five hours to reach the man lying motionless on the ground. This is the first casualty related case in the construction of the Downtown Line.<ref>[//www.asiaone.com/News/Latest%2BNews/Singapore/Story/A1Story20120311-332783.html "Bangladeshi worker killed after concrete slab falls on him"]. ===2017 Train Disruption===
===2017 train disruption===
Train service on the Downtown Line were delayed on 3 May 2017, 5.45am due to Platform Screen Doors malfunctioned and could not be automatically open. Staff had to manually operate the doors whenever a train arrived at the station and this took some time which caused a delay to train services. To minimise inconvenience to commuters and enable the engineers to resolve the problem as soon as possible, a decision was subsequently taken to close the city-bound platform (towards {{Stn|Chinatown}}). With the closure of the platform, train services continue without delay along the Line.
In the morning of 3 May 2017 at around 7.30am, train services towards {{Stn|Chinatown}} ({{DTL|b=}}) were disrupted for 7 hours due to a platform screen door (PSD) malfunction. This was due to a signalling-related fault which resulted in the doors being unable to open automatically as stated by SBS Transit. The staff first tried to manually operates those doors. However, the decision was eventually made at around 9.35am to close the platform to enable engineers to resolve the fault. The fault was eventually rectified at 12.55pm and the platform was reopened for passenger service. The faulty doors however remained closed for more in-depth repairs to be conducted after the last train departed.<ref>[//web.archive.org/web/20170503093958/www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/platform-doors-at-botanic-gardens-mrt-station-malfunction-8813298 "Platform doors at Botanic Gardens MRT station malfunction, causing 7-hour disruption"].
