SMRT Buses Bus Service 178 is an inter-town route connecting Woodlands, Bukit Panjang, Bukit Batok, Jurong East and Jurong West. It serves the industries along Woodlands Road, Jalan Ahmad Ibrahim and Corporation Road, and residential areas in Woodlands West (Woodlands subzone) and Taman Jurong (Boon Lay subzone). This service supplements cross-border services 160 and 170, offering an alternative route between NS7Kranji and the Woodlands Train Checkpoint.

On weekdays, Short Trip Service 178A supplements the residential and industrial demand from Woodlands in the morning peak hours.
