	From Sunday, 14 November 2024 to 31 October 2025, Train services on the Bukit Panjang LRT will end an hour earlier at 22:30 every Thursday to Sunday (except Public Holidays). This is to facilitate the upgrading of the BPLRT signalling system, as well as the testing of the new and retrofitted Light Rail Vehicles (LRVs) on the BPLRT network. From Monday, 24 March 2025, supplementary bus service 979X will be introduced to provide a faster connection for residents in Yew Tee Village to and from Bukit Panjang MRT / Bus Interchange. Bus service 979X will supplement bus service 979 and serve selected bus stops along its route. It will operate on weekdays (excluding Public Holidays) during the morning and evening peak periods. Chinatown (NE4/DT19) is a Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station on the North East Line and the Downtown Line.

History

Construction

This station is said to be the most challenging station to build on the North East Line, due to the large number of buildings above ground, most with reinforced concrete or timber piles and all in marine clay. Another feat was that they had to preserve Garden Bridge, a large overhead bridge on bore piles, while building the station below.

  North East Line: The Phoenix's-Eye Domain by Tan Swie Hian
  This work captures the journey, nobilty and strength of Singapore’s Chinese forefathers. A richly-coloured phoenix mural adorns the concourse wall, while an accompanying poem written by the artist in three sets of rhyming couplets is presented in granite tiles.

  Downtown Line: Flying Colours by Cheo Chai-Hiang
  The everyday scene of laundry on a clothesline is given a creative twist with plenty of colour and an illusion of movement, as if the clothes are reacting to the flow of commuter traffic around the station.
