With an express sector along the [[Pan Island Expressway]] (PIE) between Bukit Batok East industrial estate and Toa Payoh town centre, this service sees moderate to high demand throughout the day by commuters who desire for a faster commute between the West and Central areas. It also provides an alternative to the existing MRT network between {{NS1| }}, {{NS2| }}, {{NS19| }}, {{NE10| }} and {{NE11| }}, where line transfers are required. | |||
Service 506 is currently the only and oldest surviving express route with a full day service in both directions since 1997. Prior to the [[Downtown Line]] Stage 3 rationalisation, it acts as an "express variant", closely following the old route of {{Bus/T|Service 66|s=66}} in the local sectors of Bukit Batok and Bedok, while filling in the public transport gap between Bedok Reservoir and Bedok South. SBS Transit Express Service 506 is a full day express service providing direct connections between the town centres and residential estates of Jurong East, Bukit Batok, Toa Payoh and Serangoon.
With an express sector along the Pan Island Expressway (PIE) between Bukit Batok East industrial estate and Toa Payoh town centre, this service sees moderate to high demand throughout the day by commuters who desire for a faster commute between the West and Central areas. It also provides an alternative to the existing MRT network between NS1EW24Jurong East, NS2Bukit Batok, NS19Toa Payoh, NE10Potong Pasir and NE11Woodleigh, where line transfers are required.
Service 506 is currently the only and oldest surviving express route with a full day service in both directions since 1997. Prior to the Downtown Line Stage 3 rationalisation, it acts as an "express variant", closely following the old route of Service 66 in the local sectors of Bukit Batok and Bedok, while filling in the public transport gap between Bedok Reservoir and Bedok South. With the opening of Downtown Line Stage 3, as well as the availability of Services 5, 46 and 59, it was amended to Serangoon Bus Interchange in December 2021 to serve new residential developments in Woodleigh and top up passenger demand in the new town.
