Bus Service 53M

SBS Transit Bus Service 53M is a supplementary route variant of Service 53, operating as a residential loop service between the residential estates of Lorong Ah Soo and Serangoon Central. It connects residential blocks, schools, and public amenities in Hougang Neighbourhoods 1 and 2 and Serangoon Neighbourhood 2 to Serangoon station and Serangoon Town Centre, easing demand on Services 53 and 45.

Before its introduction, Short-Trip Services 53A and 53B operated on a similar routing during the weekday peak hours. Short-Trip 53A catered to the morning peak demand from Lorong Ah Soo to Serangoon station while Short-Trip 53B ran in the reverse direction during the evening peak. These Short-Trip services were discontinued with the launch of Service 53M under the Land Transport Authority's Bus Service Enhancement Programme (BSEP).

Service 53M buses utilise the defunct Hougang South Interchange as their layover point and park at Hougang Central Interchange during scheduled rest periods.
