North East Line Extension

On 17 January 2013, a 2-kilometre extension which will run from Punggol through Punggol North including the new Punggol Downtown was announced. It is expected to be completed by 2024.[1]

2012 train disruption

On 15 March 2012, more than 117,000 commuters were affected during a peak hour train breakdown between HarbourFront and Dhoby Ghaut stations, caused by faulty overhead power cables at the tunnel near the Outram Park station that had snapped. A second problem was discovered relating to electricity insulation, delaying the service further. Train services resumed at 4.35pm after nearly 12 hours of disruption.[2]
