SBS Transit Bus Service 101 connects residential areas of Serangoon, Hougang and Buangkok. During peak hours, demand for this service is normally high between Hougang and Serangoon areas, and because of that, a double-decker bus had to be deployed to this service. It is also one of the three services to loop around Buangkok Crescent, the other being Service 114 and Service 329. However, 114 has a unique route that it loops at an opposite and the reverse direction around Buangkok Crescent from the other side while 329 loops at the opposite direction.

During 2020, it has announced that this service will be extended to

NE15

Buangkok

station on 11 October 2020. However, this plan was cancelled and instead they would introduce Service 114.
