2003 power trips
On 8 August 2003, a westbound train lost traction current at 10.13pm and stalled along the track between Pasir Ris and Tampines stations. An empty train was used to push the train towards Tampines and service resumed at 10.35pm. However the traction current tripped again 21 minutes later in both directions. SMRT staff only managed to restore the eastbound side before the end of operating hours whereas a detrainment was carried out for the westbound train. 73 passengers were stuck in a westbound train and detrainment was carried out. During both delays, eastbound services terminated at Tampines and alternative transport was provided for affected passengers.[1]
2008 train disruption
On 21 January 2008, a maintenance works train which was carrying out works between Tampines and Simei broke down, causing a disruption from 5.28am to 12.45pm on both directions from Pasir Ris and Tanah Merah, affecting 57,000 commuters.[2][3] SMRT was fined on 10 March that year after investigations concluded that the disruption was due to the working party not complying with operating procedures.[4]

Downtown Line: The Big Round & The Tall Long by Studio Juju
Comprising a white round structure and a orange-red long one, this set of large geometrical forms brings a sense of calm and order into the station environment. The shapes on the wall are complemented by reflecting benches on the platform, creating a sense of symmetry.[5]
