SBS Transit Bus Service 196 is a inter-town route connecting residents of Clementi, Dover, Bukit Merah, Mountbatten and Marine Parade to the City areas of Outram Park, Shenton Way and Nicoll Highway. The route experiences high demand throughout the day owing to inter-town connections.

SBS Transit Short-Trip Bus Service 196A operates during weekday morning Peak hours and supplements the high demand for Service 196 prior to the opening of the Thomson-East Coast Line Stage 4 in June 2024 from residential estates around Marine Parade and Mountbatten, connecting to the City areas of Suntec City, Raffles Place and Shenton Way. It also provides greater connectivity to schools such as Victoria School, CHIJ Katong Covent (Sec), and Tao Nan School. Operating during weekday morning peak hours, it terminates at Shenton Way (Opp MAS Bldg).
