It connects residential blocks, schools, and public amenities in Ang Mo Kio Neighbourhoods 3 and 7, Bishan Neighbourhoods 2, 3 and 4 to Ang Mo Kio Town Centre, {{TE7|}}, {{TE8|}} and {{CC16|}}. This service complements {{Bus/T|Service 52|s=52}}, {{Bus/T|Feeder Service 410G|s=410G}} and {{Bus/T|Feeder Service 410W|s=410W}} between Bishan Street 22 and Upper Thomson Road.
 
It is one of two services along with [[Bus Service 130]] that serve the inner residential estates at Sin Ming and is a direct route from {{CC16|}}, thereby experiencing demand from residents and industrial workers especially during peak hours.

SBS Transit Bus Service 162 is an inter-town route linking the residential estates of Ang Mo Kio and Bishan and the industrial estate of Sin Ming. It connects residential blocks, schools, and public amenities in Ang Mo Kio Neighbourhoods 3 and 7, Bishan Neighbourhoods 2, 3 and 4 to Ang Mo Kio Town Centre, TE7Bright Hill, TE8Upper Thomson and CC16Marymount. This service complements Service 52, Feeder Service 410G and Feeder Service 410W between Bishan Street 22 and Upper Thomson Road.

It is one of two services along with Bus Service 130 that serve the inner residential estates at Sin Ming and is a direct route from CC16Marymount, thereby experiencing demand from residents and industrial workers especially during peak hours.
