SBS Transit Express Service 850E provides residents of Yishun East subzone (Yishun) and Yishun South subzone (Yishun), who rely on the rail network and feeder buses, with a direct travel alternative to the Central Business District (CBD). This service incorporates an express sector between Yishun Ring Road and Central Business District via Lentor Avenue, Seletar Expressway (SLE), and Central Expressway (CTE).

This service is the 6^th bus service introduced under the Land Transport Authority’s (LTA) Bus Service Enhancement Programme (BSEP). This service was branded under the normal Express branding instead of the City Direct branding, as it was operated by a public transport operator rather than a private bus operator at the time of its launch.

Evening peak-hour departures will be brought forward to the afternoon on the eves of Christmas, New Year, and Lunar New Year. Revised timing will be announced closer to the respective dates by the operator.
