SBS Transit Bus Service 186 is an inter-town service linking offices and entertainment facilities in Downtown Core, Havelock to the residential areas along Alexandra Road, Farrer Road and neighbourhoods in Whampoa. With its other terminating point set at Saint Michael's Terminal, this route forms a U-shape with a detour in the West before reaching the Central Business District (CBD).

This service sees a boost in demand during office working hours with deployments of Double Decker buses. In particular, it gives direct connections for office workers residing at Queenstown, Alexandra Road and Ganges Avenue, reaching offices in Telok Ayer and Raffles Place in a straight line via Havelock Road, Upper Pickering Street and Church Street, whereas in the other direction, it plies a shortcut via Cecil Street, Cross Street, Upper Cross Street and Havelock Road.

In addition, Service 186 provides residential areas and schools along Farrer Road with access to Queenstown station as an important transport node, and late-night services from entertainment facilities with the last bus departing Shenton Way at 0000hrs.

This service serves Jalan Bahagia in both directions (towards Shenton Way Terminal and towards Saint Michael’s Terminal). Commuters are to check the Electronic Display Signage (EDS) or Destination Signage Plates on the bus before boarding.
