SMRT Buses Express Service 982E provides residents of Choa Chu Kang and Teck Whye subzone (Choa Chu Kang), who rely on the rail network and feeder buses, with a direct travel alternative to the Central Business District (CBD). This service incorporates an express sector between Bukit Batok Road and Central Business District via Jurong Town Hall Road, Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE), and Keppel Road.
It is the 8th bus service to benefit from the Land Transport Authority’s (LTA) Bus Service Enhancement Programme (BSEP) (7th bus service introduced under the programme), and the 3rd peak-hour unidirectional express bus service introduced. This service was branded under the normal Express branding instead of the City Direct branding, as it was operated by a public transport operator rather than a private bus operator at the time of its launch.
On the eves of Christmas, New Year, and Chinese New Year, evening peak-hour departures will be brought forward to the afternoon. Revised timing will be announced by the operator closer to the respective dates.
