SBS Transit Bus Service 116 is an inter-town bus route linking the residential estates of Hougang and Serangoon. It connects residential blocks, schools, and public amenities in Hougang Neighbourhoods 6 and 9 and Serangoon Neighbourhoods 1, 2, and 5 to Serangoon station, Hougang station, Serangoon Town Centre, and Hougang Town Centre. This service complements Service 72 between Hougang Central and Hougang Avenue 9 while offering a faster connection between Serangoon North and Serangoon station than Feeder Service 315.

This service is the 3^rd bus service introduced under the Land Transport Authority’s (LTA) Bus Service Enhancement Programme (BSEP).

Short-Trip Service 116A supplements the residential demand along Serangoon North Avenue 4 and Yio Chu Kang Road to Serangoon station during weekday morning peak hours. It terminates at Serangoon Central (Serangoon Stn Exit C/Blk 201).
