===Emergency exercise===
===Construction incident===
On June 5, 2008, 280 youths spent the night at City Hall, learning how to deal with an emergency in a train tunnel.
On 10 December 1985, a foreman died after falling 6.5m from a working platform when supervising the installation of steel beams for the City Hall MRT station.<ref>[//eresources.nlb.gov.sg/newspapers/Digitised/Article/biztimes19851210-1.2.11.3 "Foreman died at City Hall MRT Station"]. Straits Time (10 December 1985).</ref>

At around midnight, the young campers boarded a train and as the train departed, there was a simulated bomb explosion. They activated the detrainment ramps at both ends of the train, and evacuated to safety via an escape shaft. The students also used the items from their Ready Bags to "survive" the attack.<ref>[http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/singaporelocalnews/view/352356/1/.html "280 youths take part in emergency exercise in MRT tunnel"]. ===2011 train disruption===
On 15 December 2011, a train heading northbound had been stuck up by a damaged power rail at about 7pm, causing a train disruption between {{Stn|Bishan}} and {{Stn|Marina Bay}} stations. Southbound services resumed as per normal from 9pm, but northbound services were closed for the night for further maintenance works. About 127,000 commuters were affected by this disruption.<ref>[//web.archive.org/web/20120107150617/www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/singaporelocalnews/view/1171573/1/.html "North-South MRT Line breakdown hits thousands"]. This station was part of 2011 MRT train disruptions on 15 and 17 December 2011, caused by a misalignment between the trains' current collector shoes, which collect power from the third rail, and the third rail itself. These were Singapore's two largest MRT disruptions at the time of occurrence.<ref>[http://www.thejakartaglobe.com/international/singapores-mrt-breakdown-chaos-leaves-thousands-stranded/485081 "Singapore's MRT Breakdown Chaos Leaves Thousands Stranded"]. ===Blackout===
A power failure and blackout occurred at the station on 6 July 2012 at about 1.30 pm, causing the upper platforms to turn pitch black. Air-conditioning and escalators also stopped functioning. Emergency lighting was turned on immediately after the incident occurred. However, train services were not affected by the incident.<ref>[http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/singaporelocalnews/view/1211955/1/.html "Power blackout at City Hall MRT station"]. Channel NewsAsia. Retrieved 6 July 2012.</ref> Lighting was progressively restored from 2 pm, and was back to normal at 3.15 pm. All escalators have also been turned on.<ref>[http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/singaporelocalnews/view/1211972/1/.html "City Hall MRT lights, escalators back on after blackout"]. ==Art in Transit==
There is a mural along the wall of the station called ''Vitreous Enamelled Mural'' by Simon Wong. However, this art piece is not under the Art in Transit scheme.

City Hall (NS25/EW13) is a Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station on the North–South Line and the East–West Line.

History[edit]

Date Event
12 December 1987 Station officially opened
4 November 1989 Station interchanged with East–West Line (former North–South Line)

Construction incident[edit]

On 10 December 1985, a foreman died after falling 6.5m from a working platform when supervising the installation of steel beams for the City Hall MRT station.[1]

2011 train disruption[edit]

On 15 December 2011, a train heading northbound had been stuck up by a damaged power rail at about 7pm, causing a train disruption between Bishan and Marina Bay stations. Southbound services resumed as per normal from 9pm, but northbound services were closed for the night for further maintenance works. About 127,000 commuters were affected by this disruption.[2] Later investigation found out that the disruption was caused by a defective fastener in the Third Rail Support Assembly (TRSA) on the northbound track between Dhoby Ghaut and City Hall stations, resulting in the third rail to sag, resulting in the whole segment of track impassable to all trains.[3]
