Bus Service 853

	From Sunday, 14 November 2024 to 31 October 2025, Train services on the Bukit Panjang LRT will end an hour earlier at 22:30 every Thursday to Sunday (except Public Holidays). This is to facilitate the upgrading of the BPLRT signalling system, as well as the testing of the new and retrofitted Light Rail Vehicles (LRVs) on the BPLRT network. Please refer here for more information. Train services will be extended on the eve of Good Friday, 17 April 2025 (Thursday), and on the eve of Labour Day, 30 April 2025 (Wednesday). Selected bus services will have their operating hours extended to coincide with the last train timing. With the route amendment, it will serve three additional bus stops along Bidadari Park Dr and one additional bus stop along Upper Serangoon Rd. bus service 148 will be introduced, operating from Woodleigh ITH and looping at Potong Pasir Ave 1, providing direct connections to the bus interchange and key amenities such as Woodleigh Mall, Woodleigh Village Hawker Centre, schools in Woodleigh and Potong Pasir and the upcoming Bidadari Polyclinic. From Sunday, 27 April 2025, Pasir Ris Bus Interchange will be relocated to the new Pasir Ris Integrated Transport Hub (ITH), which will be accessible via Pasir Ris Mall, Level 1. Tower Transit Bus Service 853 is an inter-town bus service that connects the residential estates of Yishun, Ang Mo Kio, Serangoon and Kallang with a unique detour via Yishun Central 1 and Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.

This service complements a handful of bus services along its route, such as Service 107 between Geylang Bahru and Serangoon, and Service 22 between Serangoon and Ang Mo Kio. Despite the duplications with various bus routes, it helps to provide convenient journeys for elderly residents who desire for a direct trip from their housing estates to healthcare facilities and nearby town centres without the need to transfer to other bus route.

Service 853 only operates on Weekdays and Saturdays. During Sundays and Public Holidays, a route variant 853M operates on an extended route sector to Upper East Coast Bus Terminal via Marine Parade.

In October 2021, with the complete transition of Sembawang – Yishun Bus Package, Tower Transit Singapore introduced the deployment of Volvo B5LH Hybrid Buses on Services 853 and 853M in a bid to enhance smoother commutes for elderly passengers.
