Tower Transit Bus Service 858 is an inter-town bus service that connects the residential estates of Woodlands, Sembawang, and Yishun to Changi Airport. It primarily utilises the Tampines Expressway (TPE) corridor to link the north (Yishun) with the east (Changi Airport), making it one of five bus services (bus services 161, 168, 965, and 969) popular among residents travelling between the north and east. At 73.4km long, it is the longest bus route, after the shortening of the now-withdrawn NightRider NR7 in 2014.

Travelling between Khatib and Changi Airport stations takes approximately 40 minutes, whereas the MRT (via Bishan, Paya Lebar, and Tanah Merah stations) takes approximately 65 minutes. The time saving makes this service a practical option for commuters, as compared to the MRT.

Due to the high demand for this service, articulated buses were officially introduced in 2015 to alleviate overcrowding. Previously, only single-decker buses were permitted at Changi Airport’s basement due to fleet restrictions. In 2017, Service 110 was introduced with the opening of Changi Airport Terminal 4 to complement this service. While both services operates the same route between Tampines Expressway and Changi Airport, Service 110 includes an additional stop at Terminal 4, which this service does not serve.

During weekdays morning peak hours, some buses will operate with a “B” suffix (Short-Trip 858B) from Jalan Kayu to Changi Airport before looping back to Jalan Kayu. These trips provide additional capacity for commuters at Tampines Expressway (Punggol bus stop), where buses often arrive filled to capacity from earlier stops.

A one-off special variant of short-trip 858B, operating from Woodlands to Jalan Kayu via Changi Airport, was operated during the 2019 Vesak Day public holiday to accommodate the increased demand for travel to Jewel Changi Airport. This adjustment addressed the surge in commuter demand during the first weekend public holiday since the opening of Jewel Changi Airport.

Buses departing Woodlands Interchange after 2315 hours will terminate at Yishun station instead of continuing to Changi Airport. These trips are indicated with the “A” suffix (Short-Trip 858A).

Short-Trip Service 858A operates after the last bus of Service 858, terminating at Yishun Avenue 2 (Opp Yishun Stn).

Short-Trip Service 858B supplements the high demand from the Bef Seletar Camp G and Aft Punggol Rd bus stops to Changi Airport. It operates during weekday morning peak hours.
